For the past 14 years, Positive Horizons has actively supported, recognised and appreciated the great work of the following local charity groups, who provide for adults with learning difficulties:

The Penguin Club

This is held on Thursday evening in Belper, along with Caroline and many dedicated volunteers who hold this weekly social night (the club has been running for over 25years) where the activities vary from quizs/crafts/games/ evenings out, Holidays and many other events.

This weekly social club is on a Thursday evening in Ripley, it has been open now over 10 years and is a popular evening out. Peter and Avril along with dedicated supportive volunteers meet up and socialise, do crafts /games /discos day trips along with many other activities.

Alternatives Activity Centre is a registered charity. It currently provides support for adults with learning disabilities in the form of an activity-based development centre.  A variety of services are available for Centre-Users including art & crafts, dance/drama/music/exercise groups, cooking/healthy eating, computing/Internet, discussion groups, self advocacy groups, games, puzzles and Coffee Bar. Alternatives aim to increase skills (social, employment and communication) by developing tailor made packages of support that meet individual need. Over 75 different people use Alternatives’ services each month

Alternatives now have their own charity shop in Spondon which is providing work for people with Learning Disabilities along with National Diploma training. The aim of the charity shop is to help provide some of the funding for the Activity Centre

Hacketts Social Night is for Adults with Learning Difficulties on the 3rd Wednesday of the month; This evening has been created and developed by JP Deacon himself.

He has put together a brilliant evening for everyone and it is a five star event, Please show your support and attend.
